19th Century Coaching Inn Located in the Heart of Beautiful DartmoorThe new owners John and Mary Bastin look forward to welcoming you to the East Dart Hotel, which was built in 1861 as a Coaching Inn where passengers travelling over the moors could take refreshments while horses were being changed. HistoryFrom about 1880 until 1930 the establishment was a Temperance House and sold no "Evil Drink"! The hotel was re-licensed in 1930, but only with a "Table Licence". A full licence was granted again in about 1950. The policy of "Temperance" is no longer encouraged and we stock a range of Local Real Ales in addition to Cider, Lagers, Stout and Keg Beers. These are served in the "Huntsman Bar" which features hunting friezes painted in the early 1950s and a welcoming fire. AccommodationThere are nine bedrooms, all of which have been recently refurbished and redecorated and are en-suite with either a shower or bathroom. One of the rooms is a family room with an adjoining bedroom and can accommodate up to four people. There is also a comfortable lounge for the use of hotel guests. Guests are welcome to bring well-behaved dogs (by prior arrangement) at no extra cost, as long as they provide their own bed and food. Bar and RestaurantWe are fast achieving a reputation for serving good food. An extensive Bar Menu is available with a range of snacks served at lunchtime, in addition to the full Menu which features a range of Home Made Soups, Steaks, Pies and Puddings. All of our dishes use local produce wherever possible. A number of tasty Vegetarian dishes are always provided. Our "Full English" breakfast makes the perfect start to the day, especially if you are walking on the moors. Morning coffee is available in the Bar and home-made Cream Teas in the Bar or large walled Beer Garden. Our Restaurant is available for the use of hotel guests and seats up to 30 people. Sunday Carvery Lunches are served in the Bar and Restaurant, with a full menu also available. |
